Chim Trời, Cá Nước
2021 - ongoingCHIM TRỜI, CÁ NƯỚC is an on-going long-term photographic project about Vietnamese American life as a living, shifting geography. The body of work consists of images made in Vietnamese communities in the United States in dialogue with imagery from Vietnam. Rather than seeing diaspora as a fixed condition defined by loss, the project considers how cultural identity is continually remade across water and time.
The title comes from a Southern Vietnamese saying that evokes separation, movement, and lives scattered by circumstance: birds in the sky, fish in the water.
CHIM TRỜI, CÁ NƯỚC has received support from the New York State Council on the Arts and an En Foco Artist Fellowship
